Hillary Clinton on Putin: Playing a Dog-Eared “Hitler” Card

The frontrunner to become the next president of the United States is playing an old and dangerous political game -- comparing a foreign leader to Adolf Hitler.

by Norman Solomon

At a private charity event on Tuesday, in comments preserved on audio, Hillary Clinton talked about actions by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in the Crimea. “Now if this sounds familiar, it’s what Hitler did back in the ’30s,” she said.

The next day, Clinton gave the inflammatory story more oxygen when speaking at UCLA. She “largely stood by the remarks,” the Washington Post reported. Clinton “said she was merely noting parallels between Putin’s claim that he was protecting Russian-speaking minorities in Crimea and Hitler’s moves into Poland, Czechoslovakia and other parts of Europe to protect German minorities.”

Clinton denied that she was comparing Putin with Hitler even while she persisted in comparing Putin with Hitler. “I just want people to have a little historic perspective,” she said. “I’m not making a comparison certainly, but I am recommending that we perhaps can learn from this tactic that has been used before.”

Yes indeed. Let’s learn from this tactic that has been used before -- the tactic of comparing overseas adversaries to Hitler. Such comparisons by U.S. political leaders have a long history of fueling momentum for war.

“Surrender in Vietnam” would not bring peace, President Lyndon Johnson said at a news conference on July 28, 1965 as he tried to justify escalating the war, “because we learned from Hitler at Munich that success only feeds the appetite of aggression.”

CDC Caught Red-Handed Exaggerating Flu Cases and Deaths

b2ap3_thumbnail_Screen-Shot-2014-03-01-at-12.46.09-PM.png

Appeared in Alliance for Natural Health on February 25, 2014

One of the many side effects of the government putting itself into the flu vaccine business is that it is not providing honest statistics.

In October 2013, nineteen-year-old Chandler Webb of Utah received a flu shot. A week later, he slipped into a coma. A month later—after his brain swelled so severely that it crushed his brainstem—he died. His mother attributes his death to the flu shot.

This is, of course, what scientists call “anecdotal evidence.” Even murkier is the potential brain or neurological damage to millions of children and adults from the mercury used as a flu shot preservative.

Clearly it would help to have honest flu case, flu mortality, and damage statistics to help sort out these complicated issues. Unfortunately, we aren’t getting them.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has claimed that over 200,000 Americans are hospitalized and 36,000 die from the flu each year. However, Dr. Joseph Mercola’s investigation of inflated flu shot statistics revealed that the hospitalization estimate includes not just those who are hospitalized with flu, but for pneumonia, respiratory, and even heart conditions.

When did PBS become the Plutocratic Broadcasting Service?

b2ap3_thumbnail_Screen-Shot-2014-02-14-at-4.43.57-PM.png

Published on Feb.14th 2014 on SALON by David Sirota

In a world of screaming cable television hosts and partisan media outlets, PBS is supposed to be the last refuge for honest news. This is ostensibly why taxpayers still contribute money to the public broadcasting system. That money is appropriated to try to guarantee that there remains at least one forum for unvarnished facts, even if such facts offend those with money and power.

The problem, though, is that because our government spends so little on public media as compared to many other industrialized countries, our most prominent public media outlets are becoming instruments for special interests to launder their ideological agenda through a seemingly objective brand. Starved for public resources, these outlets are increasingly trying to get their programming funded with money from corporations and wealthy political activists — and that kind of cash comes with ideological expectations.

Governance of the 'world wide web' should live up to its name and be stripped of US-centric biases and control

- Jon Queally, CommonDreams.org staff writer

Given recent revelations about the National Security Agency's global digital surveillance apparatus, the European commission on digital affairs said on Wednesday that the United States can no longer be trusted to maintain its strong hold on internet governance and that this authority should be made less U.S.-centric and more open to international control and democratic transparency.

"Recent revelations of large-scale surveillance have called into question the stewardship of the U.S. when it comes to internet governance," said the commission in a statement which also offered recommendations for reforms.

"Given the U.S.-centric model of internet governance currently in place, it is necessary to broker a smooth transition to a more global model while at the same time protecting the underlying values of open multi-stakeholder governance," the declaration continued. "Large-scale surveillance and intelligence activities have led to a loss of confidence in the internet and its present governance arrangements."

Lorde’s Suppressed Grammy Award acceptance speech (Full Transcript) 26 January 2014 (satire)

b2ap3_thumbnail_Screen-Shot-2014-02-12-at-1.20.42-AM.png

This article is a satire. For whatever it's worth, it inspired us and it made us wish it was real, because we all know how the people need to feel empowered and their hopes need to be nurtured. We apologize for the inconvenience that the article may have created.

The singer-songwriter Lorde shocked USA America’s music industry when accepting her second miniature gold-coloured gramophone for the night at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday January 26 2014 in Los Angeles, California. The shock was not because the singer-songwriter won two Grammy awards, Best Solo Pop Performance and Song of the Year, for her hit single ‘Royals’.

Rather, it has emerged that Lorde delivered a lecture-like speech that was a scathing indictment of global capitalism. But, the apparent ‘live’ broadcast had a one-minute delay and was switched to a ‘rehearsal take’ that had been shot earlier.

This was the full Lorde's speech:

Thank you soo much everyone for making this song explode because this world is mental. (Laughter). Planet Earth is run by psychopaths that hide behind slick marketing, ‘freedom’ propaganda and ‘economic growth’ rhetoric,[1] while they construct a global system of corporatized totalitarianism.

As American journalist Chris Hedges has identified, a corporate totalitarian core thrives inside a fictitious democratic shell.[2] This core yields an ‘inverted’ totalitarian state that few recognize because it does not look like the Orwellian world of Nineteen Eighty-four.[3]

This corporate totalitarian core is spreading outward from America. Planet Earth is being rapidly militarized by the world’s major and significant states, including their police forces.[4] Meanwhile, state surveillance is becoming universal[5] and torture is outsourced to gulags.[6]

Can we not imagine that in past times, simple folk found it hard to work out exactly how they were being manipulated by the Royal monarchies, and the Papal monarchy, who claimed a ‘divine right to rule’? Ordinary people from classical times through to the demise of Ancien Regime could not see how the rivalrous network of elites and oligarchs were linked, not least because the illiterate masses were indoctrinated to believe in their humble lot, to obey divinely-endorsed authority and to live in fear of damnation.

So, in today’s mental world, it should become clearer now that Planet Earth is ruled by super-wealthy people, who use their outrageous fortunes to steer the trajectories of whole societies for their own material and political gain.[7] These oligarchs are, in fact, colluding for economic gain and conspiring to augment more political power.[8] Armies of professional, political, religious and military elites serve them.[9 Together, they comprise a highly-networked transnational capitalist class that has been traced in studies by: Peter Phillips and Brady Osborne;[10] William K. Carroll;[11]David Rothkopf;[12] Daniel Estulin;[13] and Laurence H. Shoup and William Minter.[14]
